Feedup for Calves
Feed Up is an appetite stimulant based on selected salts and minerals from indigenous herbs that encourage calves to eat dry feed by encouraging the secretion of digestive juices in the gastro-intestinal tract promoting efficient feed digestion. By normalising rumen pH it enhances the gut microflora, which is essential in the breakdown of cellulose and digestion of carbohydrates and protein. With gut bacteria and pathogens balanced, the general health of the calf is maintained leading to increased intake of dry food resulting in improved growth and liveweight gain.
In a trial by Norfolk calf rearer Roger Long, calves receiving milk and a coarse ration plus Feed Up increased their intake of the coarse ration by 20% and averaged a liveweight gain of 44.7kg from purchase to 9 weeks compared to 37.7 kg to those fed the same ration without Feed Up. Roger summarised the trail:
"When using Feed Up I saw a much better growth rate that continued even after we withdrew it from their ration. This is because feeding milk to a calf is temporary and the best growth rates are obtained when they are on a good ration with the rumen working well."
Feed Up, costing £7 per kg is added to the dry feed at the rate of 2-3kg per tonne
